AKA: Total Washout Our rating:
Total Wipeout is the British version of Wipeout, broadcast on BBC One. Each episode we are treated to multiple slow-mo replays, continuous recaps, "this has changed my life" interviews and various other padding features. Also, 20 contestants attempt to beat the same old giant obstacles and challenges in the fastest time possible. The series is hosted and voiced-over by Richard Hammond, while Amanda Byram interviews the contestants down on the course. The first episode aired, on BBC One, on the 3rd January 2009. There are four rounds that contestants have to take on in attempt to become the week's ultimate winner and claim the £10,000 up for grabs. Each episode starts off with 20 contestants who all take part in the Qualifier. The 12 that complete this first course in the fastest time move onto round two. Six winners from the second round then go through to round three. In this round, half the contestants are eliminated so that only three are left for the final stage - the Wipeout Zone. The contestant who completes the Wipeout Zone in the fastest time becomes the Total Wipeout Champion and wins the prize money. In the Qualifier, if a contestant fails on an obstacle they move straight onto the next one. However, if an obstacle is failed in the Wipeout Zone, the contestants have to keep attempting it until they are successful. |
