There are four rounds that contestants have to take on in attempt to become the week's ultimate winner and claim the $50,000 up for grabs.

Each episode starts off with 24 contestants who all take part in the Qualifier. The 12 that complete this first course in the fastest time move onto round two. Six winners from the second round then go through to round three. In this round, two contestants are eliminated so that only four are left for the final stage - the Wipeout Zone. The contestant who completes the Wipeout Zone in the fastest time becomes the Wipeout Champion and wins the prize money.
In the Qualifier, if a contestant fails on an obstacle they move straight onto the next one. However, if an obstacle is failed in the Wipeout Zone, the contestants have to keep attempting it until they are successful (or the time runs out).

Most obstacles are swapped and changed or modified every episode, so there's always something different in the contestant's way.
